Kara Balewa is a 26-year-old woman who immigrated to Manta from Kenya. Standing at 5’9 Kara is a large and in charge woman, with short black hair just beginning to gray. Originally Kara come to Manta looking for work on the new AsterCorp projects. Once the space elevator idea took off, she became can essential part of the construction for the project. However, once more funding was brought on, she was then threatened by replacement by robot. Kara is now paid significantly less and must endure a simple diet composed of mostly nutrient cubes. Her living conditions are still slightly better what she endured back home, so she plans to stay in Manta until the space elevator is completed and she is left unemployed.
Since the beginning of the wage cuts, Kara has been a big face in the working class protests and strikes. Her resilient attitude and touching personal stories fuel the movement and provide her peers with strength. Although the movements are peaceful, Kara has received a large amount of kick-back for her actions. Large corporations have worked to pay her off for her silence. While, other companies have worked to threaten her livelihood and, in more extreme cases, her life.
After leaving Kenya, all of Kara’s family and friends remained on a different continent. Her greatest possessions are the weekly hologram messages she receives from her loved ones. She also greatly treasures the hand-made body mod from her father, that allows her efficiency to increase over 20x when completing construction related tasks.
